Faculty and Early Career Awards

SCCR Leigh Minturn Memorial Award for Early Career Cross-Cultural Research
Award winners must be in attendance in Las Vegas to receive a prize.

Judith L. Gibbons Award for Research on Culture and Gender

This award is in honor of long time SCCR member Dr. Judith L. Gibbons, Professor Emerita of Psychology at Saint Louis University. The award is given yearly to a graduate student or early career professional (within 7 years of receiving their PhD) who presents research on culture and gender at the annual SCCR meeting. Both paper and poster presentations will be considered by the award committee. The recipient of the award receives $200 and a plaque.

Award winners must be in attendance in Las Vegas to receive a prize. Please click the box on the registration site if you would like to be considered for this award.

Student Awards

John & Beatrice Whiting Award for Student in Cross-Cultural Studies

Award winners must be in attendance in Las Vegas to receive a prize. Please submit all materials to Jill Brown:  JillBrown@creighton.edu by November 20, 2017.

Travel Award 

Having more than one year of SCCR membership and/or conference participation will be given favorable consideration.

Applicants should submit:

  • A letter of intent justifying the request for funding
  • A brief Curriculum Vitae Description of conference role (paper presentation, poster presentation, etc.)
International Scholar Travel Award 

Having more than one year of SCCR membership and/or conference participation will be given favorable consideration. Applicants must reside outside of the U.S.

Applicants should submit:

  • A letter of intent justifying the request for funding
  • A brief Curriculum Vitae Description of conference role (paper presentation, poster presentation,  etc.)

Best Student Papers 

The Student paper awards given by the SCCR are in honor of the memory of Dr. Leigh Minturn. Two prizes will be awarded to student authors. One award will be given for the best Graduate Student Paper and the other for the best Undergraduate Student Paper presented at the annual meetings.

Applicants should submit:

  • The completed paper
  • A brief note from the applicant’s supervising faculty member indicating that the student is a full time student in good standing at his/her academic institution

Student posters will be judged at the conference. Please submit all materials to Alyssa Crittenden: alyssa.crittenden@unlv.edu by November 20, 2017.
